There are several reasons for this. When we run from God, get ahead of God, or when it’s necessary for our growth. Let’s examine these reasons. When we know that there are things God wants us to do but we run from them or run from our purpose. Maybe it’s because of fear, embarrassment, insecurity, or we just don’t want to do it. God may bring a storm into our lives to direct us back to the path he wants us to take, which is to do that thing we’re running from. For example, the story of Jonah in the Bible.
Getting ahead of God is another reason. This can happen when we don’t include God in our plans. For example, you see an opportunity in the form of an open door, and it’s something that you strongly desire. But it’s not meant for you or now is not the time for you to pursue that according to God’s plan for your life. He did not give you the green light to do that. You decide to do it anyway. God might send a storm into your life to steer you back to the right path. We must listen to him because he knows what’s best. This is one of the reasons why people end up marrying the wrong person or working a job that makes them miserable, just to name a few examples of what could happen when we jump ahead of God. We must wait on the Lord to give us direction.
There are storms that are necessary for our growth. On the other side of that storm is a miracle you never would have experienced if you hadn’t gone through that storm. There’s a purpose on the other side of that storm. We are all either going into a storm, currently in a storm, or coming out of a storm. None of us are exempt.
Your attitude while going through it matters and over-reacting to storms just makes them worse. There are many examples of people weathering storms in the Bible. For example, Daniel’s fortitude in the lion’s den. Just remember that God is there to help you get through it. There’s always hope in a storm, a way through the storm, and a victory on the other side of the storm.
“who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1: 5-7)
