Experiencing Growth from God’s Pruning

Sometimes we must let go of comfortable things to experience growth. To become who God desires for us to be, he might remove relationships, distractions, or the plans we’ve made for ourselves. These changes can feel like a loss, but instead, God is pruning the things that will hinder our growth. Like how a gardener prunes a plant. They know this will produce a healthier, more fruitful plant. We don’t realize these things are a hinderance to our growth, which causes us to wonder why these changes are happening. We may not understand, but trust that God sees things we can’t see.

Instead of refusing to let go of familiar things, ask God for the courage to release them. Sometimes the things we struggle to let go of are the very things standing in the way of our growth.

“Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.” John 15:2
